About
Cynthia: |
|
I have taught LPN school as well as working as an RN w/a varied background 30+ years. I have held certifications in BCLS Instructor, ACLS, Certified Nurse Operating Room and Registered Nurse Certified Medical Surgical, and Advanced First Aid Instructor. When computers were introduced into the profession I was able to help coworkers understand how to use them. I also did basic upkeep on them as
there was no one in the department doing so.
I am the Daughter, Niece and Granddaughter of English teachers with years of private diction and elocution lessons. I have always had an avid love of reading in many subjects, noth fiction and non fiction. I write poetry and have both written for and edited multiple organizational newsletters as well as having been published in local newspapers, interviewed on radio and TV, while in college.
I grew up river canoeing for multiple day trips and living on the sandy shores of southern Lake Michigan. This lead to a love of the outdoors, photography, botany, geology, geography, geomorphology, etc and combining these with a love of teaching to become a Park Naturalist (Environmental Interpreter). I have an interest in historical uses, both medically and as food, of wild foods. I also am an avid gardener and prefer to be Organic.
I have worked with people with many handicaps as well as having raised an ADHD daughter that is now an A- average student in college. |

The last 14 years of my RN experience was spent in the Operating Rooms of a major Level I Trauma Center and am very comfortable with this subject!

Bible studies
|
I grew up in a religious community founded by a faith healer in 1902. Remnants of that were mostly gone by the time I was born although the church remained as an Evangelical Episcopalian denomination. The city streets were all Biblical names and I attended Bible school at least one day a week after school. As a teenager I attended a summer camp held by Messianic Jews. This allowed me to have both my horzons broadened to include the prophecies fulfilled and to be with people who had given up everything for thier faith. Since this time I have continued in both led and self taught Biblical study for over 35 years.

ESL/ESOL
|
I spent many years being able to get people from many lands to understand what was going on, what I needed from/was about to do to/what to expect from me and other caregivers. Often this need for understanding was solved nonverbally. I am a natural teacher and use proper Englsih in a relaxed fashion and am a patient person with a desire to 'connect' with other people intellectually and verbally.

GED
|
With 7 years of varied college behind me as well as a life of unusual experiences, I believe I can help anyone pass the GED. I am a natural teacher from a family of professional teachers.

general computer
|
I do know how to program or write code. I do feel I would be able to help anyone needing to learn to use a computer for work or sschool and to run basic software for use in an office. I pick up such things very fast and was a preceptor for the Operating Room of 23 OR Suites when we became computerized. Many Nurses were afraid of the computers and I helped them to feel comfortable in the new environment being used in thier area of expertise.

geology
|
I have a degree in Environmental Interpretation (Park Interpretive Naturalist) in which I took the following courses:
Geology 1
Geomorphology
Field Geology of the SW USA (Field course, 3 weeks)
Introduction to Field Geology (Basically use of Bruton's compass and cartography of strata, etc).

photography
|
Although I am not highly experienced in the area of digital cameras and software, I am in composition of photos, use of SLR cameras, development of slides both black and white and color, and know how to use photos to make an effective Powerpoint program. I have an Olympus OM-1 and a digital Olympus camera. I have taken classes in Photography for teachers and was the Powerpoint Director for my church's overheads for both singing and during the message.
