About Jessica:

I just graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Throughout grade school and college, I have had the opportunity to help classmates through different ways, including one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and teaching the class itself when the instructor was unavailable for one reason or another. I love to help others with things and try my best to explain it in ways that are understandable. With the different situations I have found myself in through tutoring, I realize people learn in different ways and try to teach in the way most efficient for the individual. I have also had the pleasure of learning various subject matters more in depth as a result of tutoring in a subject. I always find myself learning something while teaching someone else, which makes it more fun for me! I hope that I have the opportunity to help you in the subject area(s) you need assistance with!!

More On Jessica's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have worked and continue to work with children in this age group in many different aspects. I babysit children in this age group, which often involves homework help. I also teach a Sunday School class of 5th and 6th graders at church, making it easy for me to relate to that age group and any problems they may have, not only academically but socially as well. I also have a brother that just finished 6th grade; and I have been a large contributor to his education. In my coursework at Southern Nazarene University, I took some education classes for these grades, including some observations and classroom experience in schools in the area.

  • general computer

Through high school and college, I have taken numerous courses on computer skills. In high school, I had to take 5 computer classes, due to changing school districts and having classes on my transcript that didn't apply in different districts! In college, I took a class on Mac computers and was able to CLEP out of my PC class. I am on the computer a lot during the day with my jobs, including working with Publisher, Word, Exel, and PowerPoint. I am also efficient with internet and email. I do not have all the answers and am not the braniac that knows these programs in and out, but I know enough about them to help with basics and some intermediate to advanced applications.

  • general music

I was part of school choir every year in school from 4th grade all the way through my sophomore year in college. The only reason I stopped was because of my class and work schedule. I am involved with my praise team at church and took piano lessons for many years. I am looking into the possibility of picking those up again. I also played a trumpet for five and a half years with my church band. I can do basic to intermediate music theory and am extremely proficient in sight-reading. I helped teach my 12 year old brother how to play the recorder and read music, as well as get started on the piano.

  • powerpoint

I am very proficient in PowerPoint. Being a business major, we used PowerPoint constantly in my classes. I have also used it for numerous things at work and for personal projects that I have undertaken. I know how to do the basics, as well as custom animations, inserting documents from other Microsoft applications, adding music to presentations, as well as many of the other features of PowerPoint.

  • sight singing

I was in school choirs from fourth grade through my sophomore year in college. I also played trumpet for five and a half years with my church band. I had the privelage of playing piano for many years and am looking into the possibility of picking up lessons again. Currently, I am on my praise team at church as a singer. I am very proficient in sight singing, making perfect grades on sight singing tests in school and being able to easily pick up the music when I see it. I have not actually taught someone else to sight-sing, but am definitely up for the new experience!
