About
Ashley: |
|
My name is Ashley, I am a 22-year-old recent graduate of Springfield College in Mass. I graduated with my BS in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies with a minor in Psychology. I plan to move to Boston this Fall where I am enrolled in a Social Work program for my Masters Degree. During my High School years I was a member of and chaired our local National Honor Society chapter in which I tutored fellow peers in a wide array of subjects. I continued tutoring academically throughout my college years. I have tutored in a wide array of subjects, including but not limited to Spanish, Religion, Sciences, and literature. I have worked in various Mental Health facilities in which we assisted clients in going for their GED's and similar standardized tests. I have extensive computer knowledge and type at about 100 words per minute and am comfortable tutoring in many computer programs. I have earned a Black Belt in Taekwondo and am also comfortable in helping in this area. I love to read and write and would happily help students with this. I can be a very flexible person, always ready to listen and assist where I can. However, sometimes structure and gentle discipline is needed to help keep a student on track. I believe each person learns differently and I try my best to always cater my teaching style based on the needs of the individual I am working with. |

I have much experience working with children of all ages, especially those within the k-6th grade age bracket. I have taught Sunday School programs for children ages K-1st for many years in which I formulated and taught my own unique lesson plans. I have worked at various YWCA based camps as a program specialist in which I taught 8-courses per day in a 9 week program. This program required me to make all my lesson plans, teach said lessons, and maintain students in grades 3-8 in quantites of 40 or more. In recent years I have had many Internship placements within residential facilities for at-risk youth in which I have helped with their educational process through testing, tutoring, helping with homework, and the development of IEP's.

martial arts
|
I have prior training and experience in Martial Arts, specifically that of Taekwondo. I trained for five years and gained experience in forms, self defense techniques, sparring, grapling, weaponry, board breaking, and much more. I trained through an ATA Academy and earned my 1st Degree black belt. I participated in many in-house as well as out-of-house regional tournaments where I earned awards for forms and sparring abilities. While it has been roughly four years since I have been actively training, I believe I still possess the key fundamental basics towards this art and would be beneficial in assisting students hone their skills.

study skills
|
As a recent graduate with my BS who is soon entering a Master's Degree program, I have mastered the art of prioritizing and utilizing techniques in order to maximize my ability to study efficiently and accomplish many tasks in a short period of time. I have managed and juggled dozens of extracurricular events while working multiple jobs, holding a presidency of an organization, and taking a full load of classes. I have many techniques and tips that I am able to share with students while assisting them in their educational process and am looking forward to doing so.
