About
Jeff: |
|
I am a rising senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Finance and Sports Management. I had almost finished my degree in Economics when I decided to switch my second major to finance. I played baseball my entire life until I hurt my elbow at the end of my senior year of high school. I've been playing the guitar, on and off, since I was 10. My mom is a writer so she has been perfecting my writing style since elementary school. I am a sophisticated writer with a strong knowledge of all elements of the English language. I was a lead columnist and editor for a sports website, until the site got bought out by ESPN. I have a specialists degree in criminal justice from Lanier Tech, and am preparing to attend Law School after graduation. I also did very well on my PSAT's, SAT's, and SAT II's. |

Jeff's Experience:
baseball
|
I have been playing baseball since I was about 5. Once I turned 12, baseball became a year round activity. I played infield until high school, where I was turned into a pitcher/outfielder, so I have experience at every position. I played for the Varsity team at my high school and my senior season we set a school record for wins and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.
Aside from my experience playing the sport, I have had a lot of exposure to great instruction. I took private lessons for approximately four years with a former major league player, so I have seen how to teach the game. Also, my coaches in high school were former players and minor league coaches so I was always given the best techniques and drills. In high school, my team and I applied these principles teaching little league teams and helping with summer camps.

economics
|
Up until May, I was an economics major at UGA. Though I excelled in my classes, I didn't feel economics was as practical as finance so I switched my major. I had virtually finished my degree, and feel like I know enough that I could apply my knowledge to the real world. I had a GPA of 3.8 in my upper level economics classes.

grammar
|
My mom was a writer, so as a child the rules of the english language were engraved in my head. I've gotten an A in every language arts/english class I have ever taken, including two in college. I got a 670 on the verbal portion of the SAT and a 690 on the SAT II writing test. I was also a writer and editor for a major sports website until it was bought by ESPN. I consider the elements of writing to be my intellectual strength.

guitar
|
I have been playing the guitar since I was about 10. I took private lessons for about five years, so I have a good idea of what works well in teaching a beginner. I played very little during my junior and senior years of high school because school and sports took up so much of my time. I have spent the last three years relearning and teaching myself the instrument. I try to play for at least 30 minutes each day. Last fall I started teaching one of my friends how to play and the results were very promising. Like many guitarists, I read tablature and I can not read sheet music. I would be most comfortable, and best, at teaching someone who is interested in learning the styles of rock'n'roll.

law
|
In high school I took three years of criminal justice and one year of constitutional law, all of which were electives. In a joint enrollment program I received a specialists degree in criminal justice from Lanier Technical College. In college I have taken business law and sports law classes. I am currently preparing for the LSAT and plan to attend law school after I graduate.
