About
Aimee: |
I currently have three years of teaching experience, which consists of teaching first and fourth grade in the School District of Philadelphia. Prior to this position, I received my Bachelors of Science in Education from Shippensburg University. Currently, I am enrolled at Walden University for a Master’s Degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy.
With experience in Philadelphia, I have had the opportunity to educate a diverse group of students, while maintaining a positive rapport. Working in an urban community has also enabled me to hone my classroom management skills, as well as become a member of the CSAP process, which is very similar to the IEP. Furthermore, I have learned how to work under a tight schedule, while encouraging higher-level thinking skills and processes. This has enabled my fourth grade class to achieve 82%-87% proficiency on citywide tests, which are similar to the PSSA. Furthermore, the lowest 5% of my students were able to increase their scores from 5-50%.
As a teacher, I feel that it is important to guide children in meaningful learning. In order to do so, it is crucial to implement hands-on/minds-on activities, cooperative learning, guided reading, writing workshops, PSSA practice, an integrated curriculum, and the use of various forms of technology when possible. This will enable children to learn effectively and efficiently, and creates a beneficial learning environment.

elementary (k-6th)
I am currently a fourth grade teacher, but have taught first and second grade previously. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, which states that I am certified to teach all subject areas in grades K-6.
grammar
Grammar is an essential component of the writing process, since without grammar we can not be proficient writers. In my fourth grade classroom grammar is implemented on a daily basis, with implementation of ideas such as irregular verbs, negatives, and subject-verb agreement.
proofreading
Since I am a classroom teacher, I have extensive practice in grading writing papers. In my classroom, we review common proofreading marks, and students grade their peer's papers for additional practice. It is essential that students understand grammar and the corresponding anecdotal marks, in order to be proficient writers.
