About Amy

Help me fulfill my dream and yours. My dream job is to be an algebra teacher someday. I currently work at the Boeing Company as an engineer. I have a background in computers and math and would love to share my education with someone. I obtained my bachelors in Computer Engineering from Tulane University in 2002 with minors in both business and math. I then started working and got my masters in Software Engineering part-time. I'm not your typical engineer and that's one reason why I think I would make a great tutor. I've been involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as a mentor, so I am good with children. I was a teaching assistant in college which has given me a chance to work with other students. I'm a visual learner myself...so I give the students a chance to work on their own and find ways to help them improve and understand the problems. I do not do the work for them. I will be successful when they are successful. So let's fulfill our dreams together -- I get to teach and you get to improve your grades.

  • AMY ROCKS!

For some reason I was put on this planet with NO mathematical/logical aptitude. So, when I needed to complete Inferential Statistics as part of my masters program in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, I was a bit panicked! I chose Amy out of a host of tutors available and it turned out to be a great choice. Amy was patient and fun and very accessible via phone or email. The cool things was both Amy and I thought this was a hard class, but I was comfortable that I was not in it alone. When Amy didn't know an answer she knew where to find it and presented it to me in an easy to understand format. Towards the end of the class we were able to do most things via email (a virtual tutor!) as I had mastered SPSS software (and maybe even started to get Statistics!!) and was able to create the data outputs and we worked on it together via email which worked great for both of us. While initially I thought it was a long shot that I would even pass the class, I ended with an A!! Amy would be a great choice for anyone needing help with computers, software, math logic and Beginning to Intermediate Statistics. It was easy to establish a rapport with her, she is dependable and on time, and made learning fun, well, almost!

  • You won't find a BETTER tutor than Amy L.!

There really are no words to describe how wonderful my experience was with my tutor Amy L.! From the first meeting with Amy I knew I was in good hands. Amy is an incredibly smart and warm individual who I felt immediately comfortable with. I was having a very difficult time in a statistics class when I sought the help of Amy and I was definitely skeptical at first that anyone could help me. However, after only the first few meetings Amy renewed my hope that this difficult subject could be learned! Amy was a terrific teacher and tutor because she really listened and helped me identify what the problems were that I was having. Not only did she explain things very well, in a highly organized manner that was easy to comprehend but, she was extremely patient and did not mind repeating examples or the reasoning behind it. I know for a fact without the help of Amy I would not have been able to achieve such success in the class I was taking. If I had to do it all over again I would choose Amy in a heartbeat! :)
