No one who knew me as kid would have thought I was the type to be an actor or a singer-I was just too shy and quiet!
Getting onstage was really the way I found my voice, and I'd like to help you do the same thing. A whole new world of confidence and achievement can open up by taking that first step out into the spotlight. This web site is about tutoring, but I’d almost like to think about what you and I would be doing as “coaching”. I have experience and insight I can pass along to you, and it doesn’t matter if you are a serious student of the theatre who would like to make it your life’s work, or someone who wants to grow as an artistic and creative person, there is a lot we can accomplish together.
I got started late, though I was in the usual school pageants, I never did any real acting until freshman year of college. I jumped in with both feet and found not only a gift for comedy, but the ability to do drama as well and what was more amazing, a big rich singing voice! In college I also found that not only could I do magic things with words coming out of my mouth when I spoke, I could also organize words with my mind and put them on paper. In addition to performing, I wrote and reviewed plays and films, which gave me a very thorough understanding of what acting is about and how plays are put together. If you are interested, I can share some of that knowledge with you.
I have ten years experience as an educator, having taught social studies and history for a statewide cultural organization. |

Mark's Experience:
theatre

First time onstage: 6th grade, playing the delegate from Rhode Island at the Continental Congress. It was 1976 and the Bicentennial was in full swing. My first line onstage was "Rhode Island votes yes!" I'm not sure if this early experience was responsible for my interest in theatre and history, but I'm still a devoted student of both disciplines and a very big fan of 1776 (the musical comedy based on the Founding Fathers-who whould have guessed!)
Favorite roles: KoKo- The Mikado, Dogberry-Much Ado About Nothing, Cromwell-A Man For All Seasons,Duke of Plaza-Toro-The Gondoliers,Sennex-AFTHOTW2TF, Autolycus-The Winter's Tale
Mountains Still to Climb: Hook, Reginald Bunthorne, Charles Condomine and quite a few more
