About
Phoebe: |
Hello! English has been my passion for as long as I can remember. As an avid writer and reader, the joy of English is something that I ardently want to pass on to others. In high school I took only honors English classes, with the exception of AP English my senior year, for which I received many excellent grades. During this time, I also acted as president of my school's creative writing club. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in English literature; at the same time, I am fulfilling my licensee requirements so I may teach English to 7th or 11th grade students. During my past semester of college I tutored refugee elementary school students in reading, writing, and spelling; I also served as an assistant in a middle school English classroom. Aside from what is solely English-based, my leadership experience is extensive; I've served as an orchestra section leader and a teen council vice-president (for this position I also had a monthly byline in the local newspaper). In the fall I will act as president of my fencing club and will occupy my college's community service agency internship position. I will also continue to tutor and assist in the aforementioned ways.
I enjoy offering my friends help with their essays, and I additionally enjoy editing any and all manuscripts sent my way. As an example, I have helped many of my friends prepare their college admission essays. Grammar is but a component of my adoration for English, and I am extremely confident in my abilities as an editor.
I believe that teaching is an experience in which the tutor and the student learn from each other. I am completely down-to-earth and personal in everything I do. I am very patient and kind; I believe in pursuing the solution to any particular problem together, regardless of how long the process takes. Though my penchant for teamwork is prevalent, I very much encourage the student to learn as an individual, and I will ensure that he is learning through adherence to a curriculum that I will design with his help. My organizational skills know no bounds; the student and I will be able to cover all necessary material, and if we happen to exceed our time limit, I will gladly finish the lesson at hand free of charge. I am very innovative and willing to try all sorts of new things. Open-mindedness is something I embody in every sense of the term, and I like to believe it finds its way into my teaching. When I am a certified educator, I wish to incorporate many different fields into my English lessons; for example, theatre, music, philosophy, and art all have close ties to the English language that I strongly believe should be pulled tighter.
Creative writing is my forte, and while I believe that it is not something that may be taught in a strict sense, I extend to you the opportunity to learn more about it from me and share in the process. I would also love to help you edit your work, and I can give you the tools you need to become a more capable writer. I will also assist in the fields of reading and spelling. If you're having any trouble with English or just want to work with someone who shares your passion, please contact me. I hope you have a wonderful day!
P.S. If you're interested in having me teach you violin, please contact me for a resume. I have played for nine years and have fairly extensive experience. |
