About
Sara: |
|
I am a 20 year old rising Junior at Boston University home in Baltimore for the summer. I major in English and Anthropology, after switching from Psychology. Last semester I made the Dean's list, and currently have a 3.3 GPA and Senior standing. This fall I will be President of the BU Writers' Workshop and Vice President of the Clarion, BU's literary magazine.
I graduated from Dulaney High School in 2006 with a 4.0 in the top 5% of my class. I left with a good relationship with many of my teachers and still go back to visit and help out. I took the following AP courses (scores in the parentheses) and received college credit for all of them: Psychology (5), English Lang. & Comp (5), Macro Economics (4), English Lit. & Comp (5), U.S. History (5), European History (5), Spanish (5), and Biology (5).
I have tutored formally in high school through the National Honor Society, and have continued to do so in formally in College for younger siblings and friends.
I will only be in the Baltimore area for the summer, so I feel I would be best fit for a student looking to keep their skills sharp over the summer, prepare for the SAT or ACT, or get a jump on advanced classes in the coming school year. I have a very flexible schedule and reliable transportation.
I hope to hear from you!

Sara's Experience:
elementary (k-6th)
|
The skills and facts learned in grades K-6 are fundamental and essential to understand what is learned and to succeed in Middle School, High School, and beyond. I feel that my mastery of these subjects should be evident in my success in my secondary education. Additionally, I have two younger siblings who I have helped with homework as they have come up through elementary school.

grammar
|
I've developed a reputation among friends and family as a Grammar Nazi--usually, it's a struggle to retrain myself from correcting their speech. I'm an English major, so it fits well, and my interests in Anthropology tend towards Linguistics, and my studies have helped me to understand the structure of language. In addition, learning Spanish has given me a better understanding of English grammar. Learning tenses and conjugations in Spanish has allowed me to apply them to my first language. I feel I have an excellent grasp not only on the rules of grammar but on the reasoning behind them which has helped me to remember them and realize their importance. I have actively applied my grammar skills in proofreading and general improvement of writing and reading skills.
