I graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2006 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a 3.95 GPA. I tutored throughout college and continue to do so on a part-time basis today. I have over six years of experience tutoring children from Kindergarten through sixth grade. I have also been a substitute teacher for Duval County. As a substitute, I actively taught all of my classes even if a lesson plan was not left for me by the regular teacher.
My teaching style is highly interactive. I do not believe in lecturing throughout the entire lesson. Instead, I involve the student as much as possible and encourage them to explore the problems we are covering by utilizing critical thinking skills and trusting in their own abilities. I build confidence by offering praise for a job well done and encouragement for when the student is having difficulty. I attempt to gently guide the student toward obtaining the answers rather then directly giving out answers, as this also aides in helping the student gain confidence in his or her own abilities. Additionally, I like to work on enhancing study skills for every subject I teach.
