About
Marina: |
I have been a math and English tutor for the past eight years. I particularly enjoy teaching math to students and making it really easy to understand.
I hold a finance and international degree with a minor in economics as well as a Juris Doctor so there are many other topics I'm able to tutor as well.
My main teaching philosophy is to make difficult concepts easy to understand in the future. I'm also younger so students can really connect with me and usually enjoy learning. |

Marina's Experience:
elementary (k-6th)
|
I have volunteered for junior achievement in the past, teaching third and fifth graders about business concepts. I have also tutored elementary students in math, reading and science. I feel that with all of my experiences working with youths and teaching them in the past, I am able to tutor in all K-6 subjects.

ESL/ESOL
|
My first language is Russian even though I am also fluent in English. Since I came here when I was very young I am able to understand those whose first language is not English and I can connect with them on that level. I also took five years of Spanish so I can better help someone whose first language is not English understand it better.

general computer
|
I have worked as an IT consultant for Construction Finance Corporation for several years. I am proficient in most Microsoft software including software developed by others. I am able to troubleshoot and work with most internet and e-mail programs such as explorer, netscape, outlook, outlook express and webmail. I can do tutorials on how to work with programs and their functions, and show students shortcuts that they can use to make their computer experience more user friendly. I also took computer applications and Visual Basic classes in college.

grammar
|
I was the Managing Editor and columnist of my law school newspaper. I have also been a tutor on brainmass.com for the past couple of years, both answered grammar questions and editing papers for grammar. I am able to distinguish between different parts of sentences and identifying correct sentence structure.

law
|
I am a licensed attorney in the state of Illinois and I also have my Northern District of Illinois license. I graduated from law school with a Juris Doctor and also worked as an attorney. Therefore, I am knowledgeable in different aspects of law, including case briefing, legal citations, holdings and legal research. You can check on my license standing at www.iardc.org.

proofreading
|
I have been editing student papers for several years on brainmass.com. I have also had private students e-mail me papers to edit over the years. Since I am an attorney and have taken several years of writing including legal writing courses in law school, I proofread most research papers with ease as attorneys use a clear and concise writing style. I was the Managing Editor and regular columnist of our law school newspaper and I am being published in a Finance Journal by Icfai University for a paper I wrote on corporate responsibility

Russian
|
I was born in Minsk, Belarus and I speak fluent Russian. However, I came to the United States when I was six years old and I do not read or write in Russian except at a very elementary level. Nevertheless, if anyone wants to learn to speak Russian, I can definitely help them out because it is my native language.
|
study skills
|
I graduated college in three years and law school in two and a half. I have always been very organized and learned how to study well while carrying on a very high workload in school. I think I can help someone both organize their work as well as study effectively.
