grammar
I would like to be certified in this area because of my supurb grammatical skill. I have always excelled in English (grammar and spelling included) and think I would do a very good job teaching it. I plan to become an English teacher after graduate school, so grammar should be something I am indeed good at. I write a lot, and the only times I ever get that green squiggly line in Microsoft Word is for stylistic choices, as opposed to grammatical mistakes. I was the editor of my yearbook and newspaper and thus have much experience in checking for proper grammar.
general computer
I know quite a lot about computers. I have been able to trouble shoot any software problem I've come across and have installed various hardware on my computer. I use quick commands very frequently and when I'm not being productive elsewhere, am generally on the computer, so I have lots of practice. I know the processes Windows requires for setting up networks and I can set up wireless connections and internet as well as fix the internet security settings. There is not much I don't know how to do, and if there was, I have immediate family members who are certified computer technicians and I can get answers easily enough.
Microsoft PowerPoint
I am MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) Certified in PowerPoint and know how to very effectively use it. I recently created a history "video" using PowerPoint complete with narrative, images, video, and transitions and timings. I'm MOUS certified in Word and Excel as well, so combining those programs with PowerPoint would be no problem, and many time the program compliment each other well.
theatre
I am a theatre major, so whether it's dramatic criticism, acting, stagecraft, directing, or anything else invovled in theatre, I know about it and have experienced it. I've been in several paid shows as well, so I know what it is like to go on auditions and can help with that.
chess
A person would be hard pressed to find someone who knows everything about chess, but if you're looking for a good grasp on the game I can help. I was on my high school chess team and competed in tournaments and right next to my bed there is a chess set currently set up. I know common strategies, move rules and regulations, and point values. I won't make you into a Bobby Fischer, but I can certainly give you a very good grasp of the game.
poker
I have been playing poker, almost all the forms of, for years now. This past year I have won two tournaments and placed top ten in four or five others. My speciality is Hold 'em, but I know most other kinds. I'm not sure what else these is to say about that.
Adobe Photoshop
I have been using Photoshop since I was in high school. Currently I have Photoshop CS installed on my computer, and its last use was four days ago. I've been to seminars on Photoshop and how to use it, and have been involved in multiple Photoshops projects for various publications. I am an expert in PageMaker and very good in InDesign, and since I know how to work those programs in congruence with Photoshop it enhances my Photoshop knowledge even more. My mom is a graphic design major, and I'm the one she problem solves with when she can't figure something out in any of the Adobe programs. This is kind of my cup of tea.
proofreading
My minor in college was English (one class short of a major) and with how many essays we had to write I'm am very practiced in proofing. I was also the editor of my yearbook and newspaper and so I know the various editing styles and rules for different types of publications, including writing models and forms. Editing has become so much of a habit that I'll continually find myself circling errors in major publications as I read without even realizing it.
