My teaching experience has included schools in North Portland with very diverse populations. These are my favorite environments to teach in, because the students tend to be more comfortable with the differences between them, and they tend to focus on the similarities instead.

My educational philosophy is that children are full citizens with full rights and responsibilities. My job as a teacher and tutor is to recognize that no two students learn exactly the same way. I must identify each student's learning needs and come up with a strategy to optimize learning for that student. Not to mention that the learning process must be interesting and fun!

  I was trained in the Suzuki method between the ages of seven and eighteen. I also played with an orchestra for six years, from seventh through twelfth grade. I feel confident in my ability to teach beginners, concentrating on correct form, instrument care, finger position, primarily playing by ear, but also setting the stage for sight reading music.
