About
Robert: |
|
I am a writer who loves the English Language, and a citizen who loves politics. I feel equally comfortable tutoring English, to native and non-native speakers, and discussing the finer points of government policy. I love to write and edit documents, and I love to impart a love of language to others. I hold a BA in Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. I spent a semester tutoring ESL students at the College at New Paltz, New York, and this year I resumed tutoring ESL students after a break of many years. My teaching style is one of individualised attention: I tailor my tutoring to suit your needs, working with you to plan the course of study that will best help you to achieve your goals. I live in Portland with my wife and infant daughter, Claire, born in April of 2007. When I am not writing, reading, tutoring others, or taking care of Claire with my wife, I also work as a photographer. |

Robert's Experience:
ESL/ESOL
|
I tutored ESL students in the fall of 1991 at my university, and began tutoring ESL students again in October of 2007. Outside of WyzAnt, I tutor roughly ten ESL students a week. My students report that I make everything clear, fun, and appropriate to their levels. That is always my goal!

grammar
|
My grammar knowledge and skills are self-taught; I found the education I received in school to be only the beginning. My efforts are all designed to promote an understanding of the way our language is spoken and written correctly, incorporating change and style. Most persons don't understand that grammar is more than punctuation and syntax; it is making sure that all of one's words come alive together, creating something greater than the sum of its parts. There is beauty in words! My experience beyond school involves writing three unpublished novels, a novella, a play, and numerous shorter works as well as poetry. Expertise is based on understanding, and understanding can only come with practice and time.
