 About Lindsay:
Greetings, my name is Lindsay. I currently reside in Dekalb, Illinois, where I work as a Marketing/Public Relations Director and continue my studies. I have been a student of the arts my entire life and received a B.A. in Art from Monmouth College. My focus is on illustration and computer art; I excel in programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. I am currently working on my web design skills by learning Flash and Dreamweaver. I am very skilled at drawing and illustration, as these are the basis for my art. I am also very knowledgeable with ceramics and sculpture. Besides visual art I am also a literary artist working mostly in novels, poetry and story-lines for video games. I have been writing my own stories since I was young and has received many awards and nominations in the past for my efforts. To date I have between 45-50 complete and incomplete video game and series based stories, 10-12 complete and incomplete novels and novelas, and numerous short stories and poems. My focus in literary studies is centered on contemporary literature and Asian literature. I have always been fascinated with the cultures of the Far East and has been studying their history and mythology extensively for the last decade. Six years ago I began studying Japanese language and since that time I have focused my studies on the island of Nihon. I am an intermediate skill level student with a second grade reading level. This is no small feat considering that Japanese is the hardest language for a native English speaker to learn and that Japanese has four "alphabets": hiragana, katakana, english characters, and kanji (Chinese Characters). I know the first three by heart and have learned 200 of the 2,500 basic kanji. There are a further 2,000 estimated literary kanji, this is certainly the subject that makes Japanese such a difficult language to learn. When I first started at Monmouth College there was no Japanese language program and it took two years of petitioning - spear-headed by myself - to bring a teacher from Japan to our college to begin our new program. While in the program I was an aid to the professor in curriculum-based actives and spent time outside of class helping the professor to adapt to life in the United States. I was also the sole tutor for the program in the first year, and one of two tutors the second. While at Monmouth College I received a Minor in Business Administration which only added to my knowledge of the business world that came from working for and being involved my family's 70 year old distribution business. My focus during college was on leadership, management, marketing and advertising. I am especially skilled at managing employees, training employees, and graphic design. I am a confident and experienced tutor with a wide range of expertise in many fields of study. I will continue to improve myself in the future not only to obtain my PHed, but also to better myself as a person and prepare myself for a career as a university professor.
