 About Lorraine:
I have a Honors B.A. in Music, a B.A. in Communications and am currently doing a Master's in Applied Music Pedagogy at Northeastern Illinois University. I teach voice, piano and music theory and sight-singing. I am a fun loving person so I love to mix good humour in any learning environment.

I also teach French, to both singers and non-singers alike. I am perfectly bilingual English-French, grew up in French-speaking Canada and lived 18 years in Belgium. I help singers improve their French diction for their auditions or recitals and am available to help choirs singing French repertoire as well.

Learn More About Lorraine's Experience:
drums
I have studied percussion education at university, in addition to my music education classes and have been teaching percussion for the past 2 months. I will be graduating with my BA in Music this coming May and have applied to do my Master's Degree in Applied Music Pedagogy at Northeastern Illinois University.
ear training
I am one class away from obtaining my B.A. in Music (I'll be graduating in May 2008). I studied sight-singing and ear training for two years at the university level. As a voice teacher, I find it's a natural aspect of my voice lessons as any singing needs to develop an awareness of scales and intervals.
general computer
I worked for more than three years as a Network Support Analyst. I trained and trouble-shooted all problems in software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), hardware (desktops, laptops, printers, photocopiers) as well as server maintenance and back-ups.
general music
I love music and have studied classical music at university (am taking my last class this semester and will graduate with my B.A. in Music in May 2008). I am going on to do a Master's in Applied Music Pedagogy. I have sung in choirs for more than 10 years and love listening to music. I can help you with music theory, history, music education methods, etc.
music history
As I am nearing my B.A. in Music (with just one more class before graduating in May 2008), I have a love for the history of music as it helps us understand the evolution of music and how it got to where it is now. At university, we took six music history classes, each on a specific period: Middle-Ages & Renaissance; Baroque; Classical; Romantic; Twentieth Century Music; as well as Canadian Music. I have lots of wonderful reference books, text books, dictionaries and the like on all these subjects and would love to share my knowledge with you if you need help.
music theory
I am one course away from obtaining my B.A. in music during which I succesfully passed all three classes in Music Theory, which are very advanced at the university level.
piano
I have been teaching piano to young children (age 5 to 10) since last April 2007. I have studied piano for a total of 6 years. I am finishing up my BA in Music this coming May and have applied to do my Master's Degree in Applied Music Pedagogy at Northeastern.
powerpoint
For more than three years, I was a Network Support Analyst at an international law firm in Belgium. During that time, I was the sole computer support person for more than 20 people. I was the one who created entry exams for the secretaries to make sure they knew Word, Excel and PowerPoint before we hired them. I was also the one to trouble-shoot any software problem users had. Not only did I pass with a 5/5 on a PowerPoint test which placed me at the level of Power User, I also have a certificate for passing a Level 2 course on PowerPoint.
proofreading
For the past four years, I have been a proof-reader for a quarterly academic journal called "World Order Magazine". I have an eagle's eye for details, including detecting typos, errors in grammar, meaning, clarity as well as recognizing inconsistencies, either in punctuation or layout. I love proof-reading as it is something that comes easily to me.
sight singing
I am one class away from obtaining my B.A. in Music (I'll be graduating in May 2008). I studied sight-singing and ear training for two years at the university level. As a voice teacher, I find it's a natural aspect of my voice lessons as any singer needs to learn how to read notes in order to sing from musical scores.
voice (music)
I come from a family of musicians. I have also gone back to university to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and am taking my last class this semester in order to graduate in May 2008. I have been singing in choirs in Belgium, and have participated in many choir tours, both to Europe and the Caribbean. I was also in a choir that sang at Carnegie Hall in New York as well as in a choir directed by Duain Wolfe. I have taken four years of voices lessons at the university level and am now teaching voice lessons. I am applying for a Master's in Applied Music Pedagogy and I will be focusing on the voice during my graduate studies.
