Sarah's Experience:
elementary (k-6th)
|
All of my teaching experience is in the area of Elementary Education. I have been teaching for 8 years. I have taught grades pre-k to 3rd grade and tutored up to 5th grade. I feel most confidents tutoring in this age range. My bachelor's degree is in this area. My Master's degree is in Literacy Studies, which qualifies me to tutor remedial reading in the elementary area.
I have also had extensive experience working in all the elementary subject areas, since I teach them every day. I also feel confident tutoring math, science, social studies, and writing in the elementary area.
I have done exstensive work with children who struggle with these areas within my own classroom. I have also worked with very young children to prepare for Kindergarten and First Grade.

grammar
|
I teach grammar in my 1st grade classroom daily in writing and reading. I also feel that the classes I received in my elementary and high school qualify me to tutor this area. The schools I attended placed a great emphasis on grammar when reading and writing.
I work exstensively with students who are learning English as a second language and need reinforcement with English grammar.
I also have experience tutoring 5th graders in writing with the emphasis on grammar.

phonics
|
I currently teach 5 and 6 year olds and know the importance of phonemic awareness and phonics instruction in the early grades. I feel that students that do not have these skills entering Kindergarten and 1st grade are the students that struggle with reading, writing, and speaking. I feel that students need the oral language background in order to learn the patterns in words and the sounds that letters make. I have 8 years of experience and a degree in reading that has allowed me to work with struggling readers. Phonics is the area that I usually assess when I have a student that is not transferring sounds into words. I feel that I am greatly qualified to teach phonics.

proofreading
|
Proof reading is a skill that I consider a past-time. Because of my grammar background and work with teaching writing, I feel that I could also aid students with proof reading.
I have a great attention to detail and can also work with students writing papers to rework their thoughts into a cohesive work of writing.
