About
Susan: |
|
I have 17 years of secondary teaching experience in both general education and special education. I have taught middle and high school students in private and public schools. I am licensed to teach English, U.S. history, psychology, and sociology (grades 5 - 12). Certification areas in special education include learning disabled, mildly mentally handicapped, and seriously emotionally disturbed (grades K - 12).
I perceive each student to be a unique learner with his or her own particular style of learning. My knowledge of teaching multiple learning styles and intelligences in a wide variety of settings would be an asset to my students.
I am a positive, caring, patient, and talented teacher and have a wonderful sense of humor. My philosophy is to teach each student as I would want my own child to be taught. |

I have taught middle and high school students in private and public schools. As a special education teacher, I taught high interest, low level reading and composition lessons to secondary students. I am licensed to teach learning disabled, mildly mentally handicapped, and seriously emotionally disturbed students in grades K - 12.

grammar
|
I have taught grammar to both general and special education students at the middle and high school levels. I have worked with college bound private school students and have taught special needs students who struggle with grammar and composition. I am able to explain questions that a student has, and I recheck for understanding and mastery.

proofreading
|
I have graded thousands of writing assignments throughout my 17-year teaching career. I am certified to teach English as per the Indiana Academic Standards.
As a volunteer, I edited press releases for the Children's Guardian Home.

special needs
|
I taught seriously emotionally disturbed middle school students in a self-contained class for three years. At the high school level, I have taught mildly mentally handicapped, learning disabled, and seriously emotionally handicapped students for 11 years. I hold a cross-categorical teaching license and am certified to teach all of these disabilities.
I am patient and have a sense of humor - the two most important criteria in working with struggling learners. I would enjoy tutoring students who have learning difficulties.

study skills
|
I have 17 years of experience in teaching middle and high school students. Middle school students are just starting to change classes, and many of these children struggle with organizational skills. I am able to offer many suggestions to help students with study skills. This includes multiple teaching strategies, as each student has his or her own unique learning style.
