Hi, i'm a recent graduate of UCLA, Calss of 2006, with a BA in French and Linguistics. After graduating I spent seven months in France teaching ESL. I have now gone back to my first love, science. At the moment I am a grad student at CSU Long Beach going for my MS in geology. I wish to pursue a career in Earth Sciences.
Ever since tutoring as volunteer work in high school i've enjoyed being a mentor to youngsters. I have always been a huge American History buff. On my Sat II I took US History as the third subject test, apart from math and vocabulary, and scored a 700.
I was a teaching assistant at two high schools in Normandy, France. Over there, I helped English teachers create assignments and personally provided visual presentations followed by discussions. My task was to help struggling students with their oral skills in English and it was met with success. I felt that struggling students need visual aides to maintain focus and it worked very well as the students spoke better English and even made an attempt converse with me outside the class. Of course I would bribe them sometimes with a class period of games but it was all in good fun. During the time I took linguistics at UCLA I studied a few languages such as French, German, Polish, and Dutch. Learning these languages helped me learn a great deal more about English, its origins, its vocabulary, and its relation to other languages.
As for astronomy, I always enjoyed looking up at the stars as a kid and loved taking it in high school and in college. As a small child I first learned colors and place names looking at atlases and wall maps. It infused a strong case of wanderlust in me.
Travel is my number one hobby, so far i've seen 20 countries and plan to see all seven continents. I'd love to have a chance to help more learn geography. Other hobbies of mine are coin collecting, riding roller coasters, and kayaking. My favorite music artists include KT Tunstall and Evanescence. My favorite cuisine is Japanese and I love science fiction. |

Ever since I was six i've always wanted to go into space and have been an Astronomy enthusiast. While at UCLA I took six astronomy related classes for fun. My lowest grade in all of these classes was a B-.

chess

Mostly, for me, chess is a hobby. I usually play with my uncle and some friends. A lot of people I know stay away from it because they think it's too hard, truth is, they don't have the patience for the game. The schools I went to never had any chess clubs. Still I'd like the chance to play and teach. It teaches patience and strategy.

ESL/ESOL
|
I have spent seven months in France doing ESL work as a teaching assistant to high school english teachers. My job was to create ways in which students could strengthen their oral participation. I did this with visual presentations and discussions and had a lot of success. I also studied a great deal about English and its history while studying linguistics during my undergrad years.
