About
Jonathan
:
I come to this position having spent many years practicing law. Now a teacher and freelance writer, I have discovered the joy of witnessing and being involved in seeing other people comprehend things that will help them or enrich their lives. Many years ago I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Michael Jordan and I started at the same time). Besides permanently inculcating in me a love of basketball (something I actually enjoyed before going to the perennial basketball powerhouse) I enjoyed being at a large university because my high school was a very small, private school. I particularly liked the fact that all fields of study and extracurricular activity were available to me there and it possessed a diverse student body - a contrast, as I said, to my high school experience. I went to law school at the University of Georgia and practiced law in Atlanta for many years. I have many stories I could tell about those experiences but, in many cases, I am bound by attorney-client privilege so I can't really say what I know. Suffice it to say, I have heard it all. Besides my career I love listening to most forms of music and playing guitar. Besides working out I play tennis regularly and still enjoy it to this day. Most of my experience is in teaching English and Social Studies although my best subjects are in the math fields as I did very well on my Math SAT and I have always possessed an analytical mind. I like to know what my students are having to read and study and challenge them by constant questioning - a product of being subjected to the Socratic method during law school - until I am satisfied they understand their work assignments.

's Experience:
grammar
My experience in this subject probably derives more from my prior career as an attorney than from my current job as a teacher. While the latter position has enabled me to review and teach the formalized rules of grammar, my career practicing law required me to write pages of documents every week. Since I lived by the rule that no letter or document that carries my name should ever contain a single grammatical error, I constantly faced the test of ensuring every sentence I wrote fit the rules. This kind of daily practice did more to remind me of grammatical rules than the lessons I learned as a student and those I taught as a tutor.
