About Michael

I have a bachelors degree in mathematics and computer science (double major) from the University of Pittsburgh with a 3.99 GPA (I graduated 2nd out of 901 students in the College of Arts and Sciences) and a masters degree in mathematics from Michigan State University with a 3.95 GPA.

I've taught calculus, honors precalculus, and algebra 2 for two years at Montgomery High School in Skillman, NJ. I've also worked for a year as a mathematics learning assistant in the Math Lab at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ and taught college algebra as a graduate student at Michigan State University.

I've worked as a software developer at Princeton Consultants, a premier management consulting and information technology firm in Princeton, NJ. I've also written embedded software for a wireless security company. I'm currently working for a company in the security information and event management industry. While developing software, I've encountered a good amount of mathematics, like cryptography.

I've scored a perfect 800 on the SAT and GRE math sections. Getting good grades and being active in sports and activities in high school has worked out. I was able to go to the University of Pittsburgh on a full four-year Chancellor's Scholarship (about ten are given per year). Studying hard in college then led to me being awarded a full University Distinguished Fellowship from Michigan State University for graduate school.

I have a large amount of experience working with students one-on-one. I've tutored math throughout high school and college and while I was teaching. I've also worked for several tutoring companies and have tutored for 500+ hours through WyzAnt since December 2007.

I've tutored students attending quite a few schools, including the West Windsor-Plainsboro high schools, The Lawrenceville School, Freehold High School, Mercer County College, Middlesex County College, Rutgers and Princeton. I've tutored students ranging from freshmen in high school to adult students having been away from mathematics for many years - including an adult in an MBA program and an assistant professor at Princeton.

I usually do 2 hour tutoring sessions. I've also done quite a few 4+ hour tutoring sessions on request to accommodate schedules.

Let me know if you think I can help you.

Best Regards,

Michael

  • I got a 95 in Math!

Michael was really instrumental with regard to my receiving an "A." I would recommend him to anyone who needs a patient and knowledgeable tutor!

  • Excellent Tutor!

Michael is an excellent tutor for young or mature students. He is detail-oriented and very patient. My 13 year old daughter was having trouble with her Honors Geometry class and Michael helped her tremendously. His schedule is flexible and he is always on time. Thanks to Michael my daughter was able to complete her class with an excellent grade. I highly recommend him and advise booking him for 2 hours at a time to make the most of his in-depth approach.

  • Very accomodating and knowledgable!

Michael was very accommodating in his schedule, and place to meet for sessions. He helped me to understand calculus in a way that I thought I never could. It is because of him that I was able to come from behind and do well in my calculus class. He has a way of relating the material to make sure it is easily understood. Excellent tutor.

  • Michael is a great tutor! Patient and Kind!

Michael is the best tutor I've had. Although being extremely knowledgeable in every area of math, he is patient and identifies the weak areas where I needed assistance. He is very thorough in his teaching methods and ensures that you understand prior to moving on. He's also very reliable. Anytime I needed help at the last minute, he made himself available. After returning to school after a number of years, Michael was able to show me many "new" math shortcuts, where I was able to understand problematic areas in a much simplified format. Best of all, I increased my math scores and was able to successfully pass my tests going forward! I could not have done this without his help! He also has such a positive attitude which rubs off through his teachings! Michael, keep up the GREAT work and THANKS AGAIN! Colette

  • A tutor who goes above and beyond

Michael was an excellent tutor. He was very diligent in helping me solve my java, data structures and computer organization problems and prepare me for my final comprehensive exam. We worked extensive hours, and he was extremely patient. If he was not able to solve the problem at that moment, Michael took it upon himself to solve it on his own time and come back with an answer for me. I highly recommend Michael to anyone having difficulty in these areas. Thanks to Michael, I was able to pass my comprehensive exam. Thanks Michael!

  • The Best

Michael is probably the best tutor one could ask for. After my first day of Intro to Computer Science (Java) at my university, I was completely lost, and was not doing too well. I tried the university peer tutoring system, which did not help at all, so I met up with Michael. He taught me everything at my own pace, without ever getting frustrated if I did not understand something. He was also very dedicated, as he studied the material that he wasn't familiar with on his own, and came well prepared to teach those concepts to me. We've met from as little as an hour and a half, up to 5 hours per session. Michael was extremely flexible with his time, and he came to my university, which was convenient for me. I highly recommend Michael as a tutor, and he will definitely have a positive impact on any student's studies.
