About

What is difficult that can't be made easy? I invite you not only to ask that question, but to challenge yourself with it. I placed myself on this site because I have been able to do that with both of these subjects. I have a degree in Math Education, and have certification in both Microsoft Word, and Excel. My style doesn't work for everyone, but for many it is very effective.
I say that I have been able to turn difficult obstacles into easy going exercises because I didn't always have it easy with the subjects I now tutor. I had to use plenty of strategies to make myself understand the concepts thoroughly. In 2001, I didn't even own a computer. Four years later, I became certified in both of the programs I have listed to tutor, and have comprehensive documents which gave me the practice I needed to obtain the certifications. I was told in high school that I qualify to take Pre-Algebra. Yet, I ended up with a degree which required 5 classes beyond 3rd semester Calculus.
So, what does this mean to you? I tend to be the most effective for clients who need to understand why and exactly how a concept works before they move on. I try to dig beyond some of the most common sayings in mathematics like "a negative times a negative equals a positive", and demonstrate how operations interact with positives and negatives to help you understand the overall process. The "big picture" often helps many get beyond when to apply rules such as the one listed above. I can break something down into its simplest parts so it isn't intimidating. Finally, I can help you go through exercises, and drawings to help you obtain your own understanding of a concept.
I am more than happy to look over your material, and see if I am effective after the first half hour for you. If I don't feel like I would be the best tutor for you, I will let you know. I look forward to working with you. Thank you for reading. |
