My name's Alex, and I'm currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington in microbiology. As an undergraduate, I majored in microbiology (with a chemistry minor), and after I graduated in 2004, I moved to Seattle to begin graduate school.
I have had a lot of teaching experience. As a grad student, I have taught two classes (introductory microbiology lab and genetics). I also have given a lecture in a medical microbiology course. I'm also the recipient of the microbiology department's annual teaching award.
Outside of grad school, I do have some experience tutoring one-on-one. To be honest, I enjoy tutoring more than teaching a classroom because I feel that I can explain things very well when I am talking one-on-one with a student.
My teaching style is to break down complex ideas into simple, easily understood concepts (often using visual analogies to everyday objects).
I feel that I can tutor in math (up through about calculus), microbiology, biology, and chemistry.
From my students, I have received very positive feedback. Some have even told me to become a teacher!
I hope to hear from you!
