About
Giancarlo: |

Hello :) I am a 25 year-old male tutor living in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. I graduated in 2004 from Carnegie Mellon University with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a minor in Physics.
I have had many teaching/tutoring experiences, including being a teaching assistant for two CMU classes and also for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences, where I worked with high school juniors. I find that teaching is the most rewarding way for me to make use of the knowledge that I gained in high school and college, so I'm eagerly looking for an opportunity to help out!
My Computer Science degree earned me a strong background not only in CS, but also in Math and problem solving skills in general. I also obviously have a strong Physics background. Beyond that, I have a great personal love of music and I would love to help out with music theory, which I find very interesting.
I look forward to meeting new students! |

Giancarlo's Experience:
ballroom dancing
|
I studied Ballroom Dance for about 2 years, starting with group classes at Carnegie Mellon University and eventually moving on to take much more intensive lessons at a dance studio. At the studio, I focused entirely on Latin styles: Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba, and Jive, but I can also help with basic steps for social dances such as Swing and Salsa. I had a steady dance partner for about a year and a half, and she and I competed and did very well on several occasions. I also have some experience instructing - after my skills improved I would often lead or assist with the group classes at CMU. I gained experience leading a group of people and also giving individual attention.

music theory
|
Music theory has been a very strong personal interest of mine for years. My primary qualification with it is that I took a 9-week music theory course with my bass teacher which covered all the basics: scales (major/minor/other), chords, chord progressions, time signatures, etc. I also studied piano for about 9 years, so I picked up a good bit of music theory from there and I am skilled at reading music. Also, I took a course at Carnegie Mellon, Physics of Musical Sound, where I learned a lot of interesting things not only about music theory but about how instruments really work.
