About
Tammy: |
|
Hello! My name is Tammy Ng and I am an experienced primary school teacher. I have 6+ years of teaching experience that spans across Kindergarten through sixth grade, but primarily first grade. I have a CLAD credential so I am certified to teach students learning a second language as well.
I majored in Sociology and minored in Education at the University of California Riverside. Then I attended Claremont Graduate University to receive my teaching credential and Master's degree in Education.
I take on a hands-on and step-by-step approach to my teaching and working with young students has provided me with lots of patience. One of my ultimate goals is for students to gain independence and confidence in the subject that we work on. |

Tammy's Experience:
Chinese
|
I come from a tight-knit Mandarin and Cantonese speaking family. I was born in Taiwan and went to primary school there. So I learned Mandarin and primary written language in school. I grew up speaking three languages at home, was sent to Chinese school by my parents, and I took one year of Intermediate Chinese(Mandarin) in college.
I feel most comfortable speaking Mandarin and consider myself fluent. I can read and write as well. I believe that I can be of help to someone who is learning Mandarin at the Beginner's and Intermediate level.

elementary (k-6th)
|
I attended Claremont Graduate University in 2001 to study elementary education. During my studies I completed student teaching in a first grade classroom and taught a second grade classroom with primarily second language speakers as an intern the next year. At the end of my studies I received a California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential with a CLAD emphasis. I have completed five years of teaching since receiving my credential but I substituted in Kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms before I began graduate school. My emphasis has been in primary grade levels so I would prefer to tutor students in Kindergarten through third grade.

ESL/ESOL
|
I have a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential with a CLAD emphasis. In school I was prepared to teach students learning a second language. During my student teaching and internship I utilized SDAIE strategies to teach my ELL students. I also incorporated the Into English program during my daily routine to enhance student vocabulary and speaking skills.
I have had numerous professional development in teaching ELL students throughout my years of teaching so I feel well-prepared to tutor other ESL students.

phonics
|
Phonics and phonemic awareness was a crucial foundation that I taught for students' success in reading. As a teacher, I attended numerous professional developments in first grade reading during the school year and in my off-time to keep abreast of the necessary skills needed to successfully teach my students.
I have seen first-hand the success of students when they have a good grasp of phonics and phonemic awareness. It is truly a very important piece of the puzzle in reading. And I believe I have the skills and experience to tutor phonics to other students.
