Hello! I am here to help you learn what you need to know and have fun doing it.
I successfully taught SAT prep and writing to young people and professionals in the Middle East. I even designed a grant writing course. I have also tutored the SAT and English as a Second Language for a major test prep company in New York. I have four years experience in tutoring and excellent references if desired.
With regard to my expertise, I currently work as a full-time writer and have received awards for my journalism and academic writing. I even like taking and teaching standardized exams. I have a masters degree in international affairs from Columbia University and years of experience as a diplomat. I speak Spanish, French, Italian, and Arabic and would welcome the opportunity to work with more ESL students.
My teaching style is the Socratic method. That means I ask students questions that enable them to discover the answers on their own. I have a good sense of humor that students enjoy and believe that learning is much more successful when it is fun. I am sensitive to student frustration -- which I have often experienced myself as I struggled to learn foreign languages -- and pace my teaching accordingly.
