About Chris:

I am 26 years old, and have lived in NYC for 7 years. I graduated from NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, with a Bachelor in Theatre.
I have always had a love for children, and they've always been drawn to my child-like energy.
I started as a Mother's Helper at 15 years old, taking care of a 7 year old and house chores.
I then worked at a daycare as a counselor at 17 years old.
Through a great friend here in the city, I've gotten involved with 2 great programs as a teaching artist.
I started with Wingspan Arts teaching Adventure Sports to ages 4-10.
I really enjoyed this class. The most exciting activity was taking the kids rock-climbing. They had such a blast!
I then got involved with American Ballroom Theatre Co. teaching Ballroom Dance in schools. "Mad Hot Ballroom" was a documentary that followed this program.
I still currently teach Ballroom Dance with Wingspan Arts.

My experience is primarily with large classes, anywhere from 15-30 students.
I've been taught great classroom management strategies, and feel that I can bring teaching a class of 30 students to giving incredible undivided attention to individual tutoring.
As a teacher, I try to hone in on how the individual receives the information being taught. As well, I make sure to introduce with multiple approaches, so the student can have more than one way of understanding the subject matter. This seems to work very well for me, and alleviates frustration. My approach is that everyone is different, and everyone thinks differently. It's important to understand this and work with it.
I look forward to working with you!

More On Chris's Subjects:

  • ballroom dancing

I have been teaching ballroom dance for 4 years in the NY and NJ school systems. I have my own curriculum and do not need training. I am more than qualified in this field.

  • baseball

Baseball is a subject I would be excellent at. I played from the age of 4 all the way through Varsity in high school. Due to transferring colleges, I wasn't able to continue through, ending at NYU which only had a club league. I was always on the All-star teams, voted by my fellow players, and had top 3 statistics on every team I played with. I am very capable in teaching the fundamentals of baseball, to the advanced mentality.

  • piano

I've played piano my whole life basically, self-taught. I play primarily by ear, and am an improv. player. I am not great at reading, but do know the basics. I know chords and scales and could teach how to create a beginners own approach to the piano with contemporary music while making it fun. Great for children.

  • theatre

I would love to teach theatre...I have been doing theatre since elementary school. I graduated NYU with a Bachelor in Fine Arts of Theatre. I studied at the Lee Strasberg Conservatory, and the Stella Adler Studio for Acting. I am in pursuit of a film/theatre career and have a credible resume.
