About
Stephen: |
|
I have a Ph.D. in Medicinal Pharmacology/Pharmaceutical Sciences. Therefore, I have an extensive background in Math/Stats, Chemistry (Phys and Organic) as well as Biology (Biochem as well).
To support myself over the 10 years of post-secondary education, I have tutored students ranging from grade 7 to university level students and therefore I can tailor my teaching style to maximize the slope of the learning curve.
In addition to this, I have extensive experience with MCAT, GRE and various standardized tests and I can help you lay out a plan for possible future academic career choices. |

I hold a Ph.D. degree major in Pharmacology/Pharmaceutics under the mentorship of Dr. Ming Hu (Professor) at Texas Medical Center (College of Pharmacy, University of Houston, Texas). My thesis research has focused on exploring the role and functional capacity of the multi-drug resistance associated protein 2 (MRP2) efflux transporter as well as identifying the predominant UDP-glucuronosyltransferases isoform(s) in the intestinal disposition of Soy Isoflavones.
Throughout my academic career, I have acquired a great deal of experience in teaching biomedical and pharmaceutical research, specializing in pharmacokinetics as well as absorption, drug metabolism and drug excretion. Because of the nature of my studies, I have a strong background in animal/cell biology, physical (especially with regards to drug solubility and stability) and organic chemistry as well as a through knowledge in mammalian physiological and anatomical systems. I am also capable of teaching enzyme kinetics/metabolism models as well as using computerized mathematical models to characterize both typical and atypical reaction kinetics mostly seen in the field of biochemistry. Furthermore, I have sufficient experience with regards to cell biology (e.g., culture studies to assess absorption potentials, metabolism and transport mechanism (efflux mechanisms) of xenobiotics). In addition to my extensive knowledge in organic chemistry from my experience working with the United States Pharmacopeia, I have had experience in development of liquid extraction and analysis methods for various natural products ( e.g., LC/MS; reversed phase high- and ultra-performance liquid chromatography).
