I should begin by telling you that I am only a freshman. I'm 18 years old and call Albuquerque, NM, home, but am quickly adapting to the city and am really enjoying it. If you are dead-set on having somebody with actual, paid tutoring experience, I am not your man. I do, however, have two younger brothers who I have helped a lot with homework and study habits (they are 14 and 6 years old)
My 14 year old brother told me that he likes they way I help him because I don't just do the work for him, but I guide him to figuring it out for himself. This is probably the most crucial concept when tutoring someone - nothing is gained if the student doesn't master concepts that are difficult for him or her. Another issue I have run into personally is a tutor that seems to think some problems are easy and, because of that, act condescendingly and make the student feel bad. That is ridiculous behavior that has no place. I never act that way.
Some more about me.. I am an Ultimate Frisbee player, a singer (classical and musical theatre), an actor, a debater, and a DJ. I actually started my own mobile DJ business when I was in 9th grade and worked for myself all the way through high school. I am passionate about politics, I read the Times every day, I love books, and I value friendship. I think driven people are the most interesting and think I can inspire others to feel the same way. I had a 4.3 GPA in high school and graduated with highest honors (Cum Laude - approximately top 7% of my class).
I am available to tutor in many subjects: math (I have taken all the way through Calculus 3, plus differential equations and am currently taking Linear Algebra), reading, writing, english/grammar, Spanish (6 years - I am not fluent, however), study skills, and DJing (I'm kidding). I look forward to meeting you (or your son or daughter) and know that I can do a great job in creating understanding and success in the classroom.
