More On Jonathan's Subjects

  • ear training

Studies at Berkelee College of Music, and later at the École de Musique d'Asnières-sur-Seine. Curriculum at Berklee involved ear training and solfège using Kodaly's movable "DO" system. Subsequent solfège studies in Paris, France were conducted in the French Conservatory "fixed DO" method, in which I obtained a First Prize. I devote a regular amount of time to the transcription of improvised jazz flute solos, as well as arranging music by ear.

  • grammar

Currently a writing tuotr at SUNY Empire State College's Dept. of Academic Support. Grammar and its proper use are ongoing concerns among ny tutees.

  • general music

Excellent working knowledge of basic diatonic/modal music theory, including scale and chord construction, diatonic harmony, and intermediate jazz improvisation.

  • music theory

    (See General Music).

  • flute

Studies with Randolph Bowman, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Jamie Baum, Chris Norman, and Marco Granados. Second Prize in Flute from the Ècole de Musique d'Asnières-sur-Seine in France.

  • proofreading

Recently completed a workshop in copyediting. I am very detail-oriented, and my tutoring experience has put my skills in this area to the test.
