About

|
I have a natural talent for explaining physical and mathematical concepts in an accessible, simple, and understandable way. I prefer to gently guide students in problem solving so they can learn how to find solutions and convince themselves of their correctness. I gained teaching experience as a physics lab assistant while in high school (I have seen basically all of the standard pitfalls when grading and designing tests), and helping other students in college (as a teaching assistant, and some one-on-one tutoring of friends).
I have a bachelor of science degree (with department and high honors) in physics as well as in mathematics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Currently, I'm a graduate student in theoretical physics at the University of Maryland. |

Russian
|
I am a native Russian speaker, and speak Russian on a regular basis at home and with some friends. I have taken several language courses in the past, so I know how to approach teaching Russian, especially the conversational, pronunciation, and grammar aspects.
I feel that my knowledge of Russian would be most appropriate for teaching at the intermediate (or advanced) level, but can also work with beginners if they have some materials (textbooks, language courses) of their own. I can suggest or find additional aides for teaching Russian at the university library if desired. I think that not having official pedagogical credentials for teaching Russian may be good, because those who learn a language based on grammatical structures tend to ultimately have worse command of it than those who start to learn a language without such constraints.
