About
Carolina: |
|
I'm a stay at home mom with a degree in secondary Math Education. My student teaching ranged classes from low level high school math to honor precalculus. I've been tutoring since high school (where I was highly active in Math Honors Society/Math Club) and continued tutoring during college. During the summers I had job tutoring math to elementary school aged children and I also worked at a preschool, which widens my experience to younger children as well. Though my degree is in math I also have a very strong physical science background as I majored in Meteorology for 2 years. I believe every person deserves a chance to succeed, but that not everyone learns in the same manner. My classroom teaching style differs from my tutoring style. When tutoring it's important to take advantage of the one on one and build on the student's individual learning style. I must base my methods for teaching after learning the student's difficulty and how that student learns best. In every situation there is one common ground, a need for a strong foundation. When that's not present I will go back as far as needed to help the student progress, otherwise there is no way to move forward. |

ESL/ESOL
|
I have been an ESL student myself and so I have the experience. Also, while getting my degree I took courses which in Florida qualified me to teach with ESL students in the classroom. A few semesters ago I was an ESL teacher at First Baptist Church of Simpsonville and with that have furthered my experience in the area. I'm constantly translating for and teaching friends that do not yet speak English.

physical science
|
Before going into education my major in college was Meteorology. I studied that for 2 years with very high grades, and when I switched I went first into science education before finalizing in math. I have an extensive background in physical science backed up by many courses I took both in college and high school (several of which I received college credit for). I believe physical science and math are highly related and so it is easy for me to transition from one to the other.

I was born in Brazil and raised there until I was 10 years old. I still speak and can read/write in Portuguese fluently.
