About Tzipora:

I graduated from Goucher College ('07), Magna Cum Laude, with Honors in Music, and Phi Beta Kappa (national honors society). I majored in music with a concentration in violin performance, and I minored in mathematics. Now I am halfway done with my masters degree in music education at Hunter College in Manhattan. I love teaching, especially one-on-one, and I have tutored in Math, Hebrew, and Music. Throughout my life I have worked with classmates and friends of all ages, both officially and unofficially, to help them through difficult subjects. My style is heavily based on understanding and logic, rather than memorizing, with an emphasis on visual aid. I am very patient. I look forward to working with you!

More On Tzipora's Subjects:

  • Hebrew

I studied Hebrew in school from kg - 12th grade. Then, before college, I went to Israel for one year on a program where two-thirds of my many classes were taught in Hebrew. That year, I also received a teaching certificate from the Ministry of Education in Israel, which says I can teach Hebrew outside of Israel. I have tutored Hebrew for the past few summers, preparing public school students to enter a Jewish day school in high school (covering years of Hebrew classes in one summer). In college, I placed out of all possible levels of Hebrew offered.

  • music theory

I took 6 music theory courses in college, and I was in the top 5% in each class. I was able to take all 6 classes in 4 semesters, because of my proficiency. Theory is very math-based, and I minored in math along with my music major. I helped numerous classmates with homework and I tutored a freshman in Theory II last semester. My student said everything became very clear when I explained, and I offered more efficient methods of analysis than the teacher had. Theory comes very naturally to me, especially since I have had the opportunity to play music from many different time periods and styles, and I have a sense of what looks/feels/sounds right.

  • violin

I majored in violin performance in college. I have given private lessons to students from age 6 to 85. I completed several internships in public schools where I assisted the violin teacher by helping students who were ahead of or behind the class level. I worked at a summer music camp for 7 summers in a row, working with students in all string instruments, but mostly violin. I, myself, have studied violin privately for 12 years. I am currently in a masters program for instrumental music education, where I continue to study violin privately.
