German Students -
I'd love to help you learn and/or improve your German. This language and culture is truly a passion for me and I'd love to share it and make it fun for you too!
I come from a very German family; my relatives didn't immigrate until the 1950s. I studied German for 11 years, from 6th grade through college. I received a German Scholarship at Carthage College where I went to school.
I've traveled to Germany three times. The first was in high school when I was 16 as part of an exchange program. The trip lasted for a month and I lived with a host family. My second trip was a 2 week vacation to visit friends in Germany. My third trip was my semester abroad in college where I studied at Heidelberg University. For most of the semester I lived independently (no host family) and this is when I feel I REALLY learned and experienced German. Those day to day experiences (grocery store, Laundromat) are when you really begin to feel comfortable with a language.
Teaching Style -
I am flexible to however the student learns best. I am comfortable in a lecture type situation for students who prefer to take notes, I am also comfortable directing for students who are hands-on. Overall I'd say my style is very interactive, these two subjects require a lot of conversation and input from both student and teacher.
