Hi, I am Shonna. I graduated form Queens University in Charlotte, NC with a BA in Psychology. My GPA was a 3.4. I also have minors in busuness marketing and communications. While in college, I played basketball on a full scholarship. In high school, I was a tri-athlete in basketball, track, and volleyball. I was the only freshman on the varsity teams, and I was team MVP in basketball and track for two years. My SR year I was FEMALE ATHLEE OF THE YEAR. I coached a middle school fast pitch softball team for two years, and I will be coaching the varsity volleyball team and the jr varsity basketball teams at my high school next year. I have 18 years of experience in sports and I love coaching one-on-one.
Currently, I am a high school English and Algebra teacher. I love teaching and tutoring one-on-one. When teaching or tutoring, I use hands-on methods that keep the students moving and working. I try to relate the lesson to real life stituations and then apply it to the text. In math, I am sure to show every step and then allow students to use their own shortcuts. I also show diferent ways of solving the same problem so that the student is free to choose their best method. This approach to teaching hs proven successful in that I taught LD studnets reading for 4 years and I had at least 71% passing each year. Their avg. before me was 43% passing.
I am an excellent writer with experience preparing students for the NC 7th and 10th grades writing assessments. Overall, I have 7 years of experience teaching and tutoring and I look foward to sharing my abilities. |

I started playing basketball when I was 8 years old. It was natural for me and I was the MVP on every team that I played for. In high school, I made varsity my freshman year and I made all-conference all four years. I was voted on our all-county basketbal team for seniors my sr year and I was my team's leading scorer and rebounder. I have coached many sports camps over the years as well as a 6-8 year old basketball team last summer. I was rewarded a $18,000 per year basketball scholarship for college where I played for 4 years. While in college, I made the all-conference team my sr year and I was academic all-american my sophomore year. I love basketball and my 18 years of combined experience has evolved me into an effective coach.
