Amy: |
Hi! My name is Amy and I am a PA certified English and Social Studies teacher. I am young, motivated, and committed to improving the academics of local students!
I am a 2005 Graduate of Penn State University and worked full time as an English tutor in a local high school. In addition to full-time tutoring, I have done home-bound instruction, worked within a special education classroom, worked in after-school homework help programs, and coached/taught swimming. This year I completed my first year as a full-time teacher with an English position in a small public high school.
I have a strong belief that every child can learn and that every child wants to learn. No child learns exactly the same and every child can benefit from someone who takes the time to learn their individual style. I have a passion for reading and writing and mainly I love to read and write about History and Government. I have two years experience helping students become better readers and writers and have much experience helping students study, improve homework, and improve standardized test scores.

elementary (k-6th)
|
I have worked with kids of all ages through swimming. In addition, I have experience working with 4th and 5th graders in a learning support classroom. I am capable of helping students of any age with reading (the Language program that I have been trained with works with any age) and I am capapble of teaching basic Math, English, Social Studies, and Science.

grammar

I have worked with the past two years with students in an urban environment. Much of my work has centered around a Linguistics program called "Language!". My job has included teaching students how to improve comprehension and fluency and basic grammar (such as subject-verb-agreement, tenses, vocabulary, phonics, etc).

swimming
|
I have been involved with swimming for most of my life. Currently I am an assistant swim coach with a local aqua club. I have held this position for almost two years now. In addition, I have 11 years of aqua club swimming, 4 years of varsity swimming (4yr letter winner, senior co-captain), and one year of swimming at the D-3 College level. I can teach the 4 main competetive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly), diving, and basic technique. I am CPR/Lifeguarding/and First Aid certified (by the American Red Cross).
