I graduated from Whitman College in 2005 with a Bachelors of Arts in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology. During my studies, I learned about the detailed mechanisms that make life possible. In addition to further heightening my interest in the molecular bases for life, my studies have also instilled in me a desire and passion to help others understand the basic but intricate processes that create life.
I like to lead my tutees to the answer, rather than just handing it to them fully formed. I therefore ask many questions and try to relate the material in the question at hand back to previously covered and understood material. However, I will also provide helpful hints on how to find the answer given the available or allowed tools (for example, textbook indices or the internet.) I am always polite, encouraging, and eager to help the tutee in his or her search for knowledge. I look forward to aiding people in furthering their educational or academic pursuits. |

My qualifications to tutor biochemistry include a Bachelors of Arts in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular and 1.5 years of experience tutoring biochemistry and biology- and chemistry-related topics at the community college level. Furthermore, I scored highly on the Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology Subject GRE. I therefore feel that I have demonstrated sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge, to tutor biochemistry at the college level. Subjects I have experience tutoring include cell signaling and recognition (e.g., G-protein coupled and tyrosine kinase receptors immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion molecules, integrins, cadherins, selectins) and metabolic pathways and their regulation (e.g., glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, and amino acid nucleotide biosynthesis and degradation.)
