I've been a lot of places, and done a lot of things. I've lived all of the US and several places in Europe, and have traveled all over the world. I was in the Army for 10 years, I've been an international courier, a janitor, a security consultant, a mediator, an administrative manager, a teacher, a protective services driver, a firearms instructor, a summer camp counselor, a crew rowing instructor, a candidate for Congress, and many others. I read voraciously, I've attended college in Germany, Alabama, and North Carolina, and have studied History, Philosophy, Economics, Classical Studies, Praxeology, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Literature, and Languages. I am an amateur gun smith, blacksmith, and carpenter. I have experience tutoring young children (elementary thru middle school) in Reading and History, and college students in Biology, History, Philosophy, Economics, Logic, and many other subjects. I specialize in teaching gifted and home school students.

• I have studied Political Science in college, and have been involved in politics for over 10 years. I also was the Libertarian Candidate for Congress in the 1st Congressional District of NC in 2001. I have served in various political party offices at both the local and state levels, have been a delegate at numerous political conventions, and have served as an appointed member and chairman of a local government commission.

  I have worked as an athletic director at a boys camp and have taught and coached basketball for three years.

• chess

  I have taught a number of people to play chess over the years--from children as young as 5 to adults. I don't claim to be a chess master--just a good player and a good teacher. I enjoy a good game of chess, I can teach you the names of all the pieces and how they move, as well as the advanced techniques: castling and en passant.

• economics

  I have studied both Macro and Micro Economics in college, and have spent 2 years studying Austrian Economics at the Ludwig von Mises Institute. I also commonly read academic works by Economists and Economic Historians.

• elementary (k-6th)

  I have a great deal of experience with children, coming from a large family in which I was the oldest child. My family also had many foster children over the years, and I engaged in a great deal of baby-sitting when I was a teenager. I also spent this past Summer as a camp counselor at a summer camp for boys, and several years ago taught History to gifted students from 3rd through 8th grade. These days, I have a neice and nephew, as well as a number of young cousins, all of whom I teach from time to time.

• general computer

  I have used a computer professionally and in college for more than 15 years. I am already qualified as a tutor in Powerpoint, Excel, Word, etc. and have completed training programs in SPSS, DreamWeaver, and other programs. I have also taught a number of people who were completely unfamiliar with computers to use them for such basic functions as word processing, internet searches, and email.

  I was an Assistant Director for Administration for an outsourcing company for several years, and commonly used PowerPoint for presentations to clients and staff, as well as for internal functions such as multi-level organization charts.

• rowing

  I spent this past Summer as the Crew Rowing Instructor for a Summer Camp. I trained groups of boys between the ages of 10 and 13 to row 7-man boats. I also hold a NH Commercial boating license, and have conducted kayaking instruction and boating safety instruction for the camp.

• SAT reading

  I am a voracious reader, and have been reading at a college level comprehension since I was in 2nd grade. I read at least 1 book a day. I have completed and passed the non-SAT Reading Test on WyzAnt. I have taught both children and adults to read or to improve their reading.

• SAT writing

  I have completed and passed the non-SAT Writing Test on WyzAnt. I am a veteran of many term papers and writing assignments in college, and many reports and in the military. I also spent several years as an Assistant Director of Administration, writing and editing vast numbers of business reports, contracts, and general correspondence. In addition, I have written a number of articles for various online magazines, as well as many letters to the editors of newspapers.

  I have studied and taught many subjects, and continue to do so. In both my military and business careers, I was often forced to become a subject expert in very little time, usually in order to brief superiors or to instruct subordinates. I also spent many years as a tutor in college, and often helped my students organize a study schedule and establish stuby habits in order to pass critical exams.
