About Lauren:

I am a 2007 graduate of Northeastern University School of Law. Employed by the Commonwealth as a staff attorney, I love my job but miss the teaching opportunities I had throughout my college and law school years. Though I completed my studies in Boston, I have been a life-long resident of South Coast, MA.

My first opportunity as a tutor came while I was studying abroad in 1999. I helped Spanish-speaking students in Argentina with their English studies, and also tried my hand at tutoring in algebra as well. After I returned to the US, I continued to tutor students - this time in Spanish. The youngest student I taught to speak Spanish was 7 years old! I completed my high school studies as an Honor Student, and enrolled at Ithaca College in NY on a 4 year scholarship to major in Spanish.

After my first year at Ithaca, I transferred to the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth for an opportunity to play on the Women's Soccer Team. I continued to major in Spanish, and also picked up a second major - Political Science. Given my fluency in Spanish, I had the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant in the Spanish Department at the University. My responsibilities included: drafting teaching plans, working individually with students, correcting assignments, and creating study guides. My method of teaching was student-driven i.e., allowing the students to raise specific areas of concern and then addressing those needs.

Throughout law school, I also had the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant to 1st year law students. My responsibilities pertained to the supervision and facilitation of 12 law students working together to complete a public interest project in the field of law. In that particular setting, my teaching style was geared more toward providing the tools and resources for the students to complete the project, as opposed to doing the problem-solving for them.

Regardless of the setting, I have enjoyed both the challenges and rewards of helping students achieve their academic goals. I approach tutoring with patience, enthusiasm, and most of all, the desire to see each person reach his or her highest potential.
