About

I'm a college senior majoring in chemistry. I've chosen five types of classes to tutor: math/science, English, Spanish/ESL, computers, and GED. I have different qualifications for each of them. MATH/SCIENCE: This is whatI've spent the last four years studying for my major. ENGLISH: I can just look at a sentence and tell whether it's grammatically correct or not, and whether everything is spelled correctly. I think it comes from reading a lot--I've seen English written correctly so much that when I see it written incorrectly, it looks strange. SPANISH/ESL: I've taken two years of college level Spanish classes and a two-week study-abroad trip to Mexico. I think the experience of learning a new language would help me teach ESL. COMPUTERS: I grew up with them. My dad is a computer-science professor at Tri-County Tech, so I've always been exposed to computers. I also took a course in Microsoft Office and made an A. GED: I took it myself and made a perfect score. Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to list my qualifications for each area. |

general computer
|
I know my way around a computer pretty well. My dad and uncle both owned PC's from the time they came out, so I've been around them all my life. Dad now teaches computer technology at a local 2-year college. I have taken two courses in Microsoft Office, two in computer programming, and am planning to take a troubleshooting course in the next few months. I can take a computer apart down to the state in which it arrived from the store (that is, with the CPU, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc., all intact, but separate from each other) and put it back together.

GRE
|
I think I would be able to tutor students to do well on the general GRE because I got a good score on it myself--a 1490 (720 math, 770 verbal). I also note that I'm already certified to teach algebra, which is the main component of the math section, and both grammar and vocabulary, major components of the verbal section (the third major component being reading comprehension, which you don't have a certification for). I assume people looking for tutors for a subject GRE would look under the specific subject.

proofreading
|
I'm afraid I'm not sure what is meant by "prrofreading." If you're looking for someone who's familiar with the various symbols used by proofreaders who will not be reviewing the document with the writer personally, then I may not qualify. I've never tried to use those symbols. But if you just need someone who can recognize and correct mistakes of spelling, grammar and composition, and explain what they did and why in plain English, that I know I can do. I've proofread tests and homework essays for my father, a computer science professor, as well as the home page of my uncle's business.
