Hello!
I grew up in Carlsbad, CA and had a diverse background as a kid. Coming from a musical family, I started taking violin lessons when I was in 3rd grade and continued to play all the way through my sophomore year of college. I was in dance, drama and singing choirs all the way through college. Thus, I am very familiar with sheet music in treble clef.
I majored in biology and French at Western Michigan University and received a minor in dance. I spent 7 months in Besancon, France where I studied courses conducted entirely in French. I would feel comfortable tutoring in beginning and intermediate French.
At the University of California, Irvine, I studied neuroscience and received a Ph.D in Pharmacology and Toxicology. I am qualified to tutor science in general, but especially in physiology, molecular biology, immunology and neuroscience.
I have experience tutoring algebra in high school, teaching dance in college and mentoring undergraduates in science. The style of teaching a student through tutoring in different for each individual and for each subject. It is important to first understand the areas of difficulty and start working through those areas until they make sense. Learning the violin and French are about comprehension and repetition, however, science entails many facts and mechanisms, so it is important to always keep the big picture in mind.
