discrete math
|
I have a degree in mathematics from MIT and a doctorate in linguistics from UCLA. I have taught discrete math at Boston University and at several smaller local colleges. I have also used aspects of discrete math in my research and consulting work in computational linguistics, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence.

I have taught computer science at several local colleges and universities and at charter, public, and private schools, as well as web site development using HTML and JavaScript and programming in BASIC, FORTRAN, LISP, Pascal, assembler, C, and Java. I have also worked in industry as a technical writer and software developer, including research in software engineering methodology.

I have a doctorate in linguistics from UCLA and have published dozens of research articles about language, including several in Verbatim, the language quarterly. My book, "Fatal Words: Communication Clashes and Aircraft Crashes," examines the potentially disastrous consequences of even minor errors in grammar and vocabulary.

I began playing violin when I was nine years old and viola when I was fourteen. I also play the fidola (five-string viola). Over the years I have played in several local community orchestras, as well as in contra dance and country dance bands. I teach beginners the rudiments of violin playing and more accomplished players the fine points of the various traditional fiddle styles.
