I am a fluent, formally educated Spanish and Portuguese speaker as well as very highly proficient, formally educated speaker of Italian and French. I have over 12 years experience in tutoring and teaching the Romance Languages and ESL. With English as my FIRST language, I am able to teach foreign languages on a practical, highly understandable grammar matrix – the key to my own extensive language acquisition. I studied Spanish for four years in the Science and Arts curriculum at Cass Technical High School, Downtown Detroit, Michigan’s renowned magnet high school. Subsequently I advance placed into 3rd year major level coursework and majored in Spanish literature and language at Wayne State University. I also gained minors in French and Italian and participated in an accelerated Euro-Portuguese course open only to Romance Language Majors. My fluency in Portuguese extends itself to both the Carioca and Euro Portuguese dialects having completed a solid year of subsequent classes in Carioca Portuguese at the Garvin Graduate School of International Management where I earned my MBA in International Marketing. I am excellent writer, editor, translator and interpreter in Spanish and Portuguese, as well as highly proficient in all of these endeavors in both French and Italian. My best experience, however is on a practical level. Learning a foreign language with me will help you improve your speaking, reading and writing skills in ANY language as you increase your understanding of basic grammar.

I have over 7 years experience teaching English as a Second Language. As a speaker of several foreign languages myself (you can take a look at my profile which also describes some of my ESL experience) I know grammar inside out. It is MY KEY to learning all of the languages I speak and my language talents allow me to teach ESL expertly. In fact I will help you speak English more correctly than many Americans presently speak it. I was taught English, my FIRST language on the basis of not only strong grammar but with an emphasis on phonics, phonetics, and spelling as well. As a teacher I am able to impart this expertise to my students.

Portuguese

I studied Euro Portuguese formally in my undergrad studies at Wayne State University in my Senior year. This was an extrememly accelerated course that covered beginning and intermediate Euro Portuguese in a quarter. It was only open to seniors who were also Romance Language majors. I additionally studied the Carioca dialect of South American Portuguese for a solid year in my MBA studies. I have excellent experience proofreading editing and rewriting subtitles for animation films that were slated for dvd release in Euro Portuguese. For the last year I have been interpreting in Brazilian Portuguese. My reading, writing, speaking skills in both the Carioca and Euro Portuguese dialects well qualify me to tutor or teach Portuguese.
