 About Lunia:
Thank you for taking a look at my profile. I am entering my senior year at Cornell University (not to be confused with Cornell College--that's right, I attend the Ivy League one). I graduated with honors from La Salle Academy and, from there, studied at a university in the Dominican Republic for a year before transferring to Cornell. To date, I have completed a total of 120 college credits, most of which were in the natural sciences and in nutrition. In the Dominican Republic, all of my courses were in Spanish, therefore you can be certain that my skills in the language are excellent, as I am a native speaker. While in the Dominican Republic, I tutored classmates in mathematics (equivalent to pre-calculus) and in general chemistry. Prior tutoring experience was in Spanish, geometry, and pre-algebra while I was in high school. Since then, I have had much more coursework and can offer knowledge in the additional subjects I have highlighted. My tutoring style consists of gauging the proficiency of the student in the subject matter and building on previous knowledge, while filling in any gaps in understanding. I am very patient, particularly when checking for comprehension, but also goal-oriented because I work for and expect progress.

anatomy
My academic experiences in anatomy truly began in high school while taking biology. Ever since my first dissection, I have always been fascinated by the human body and how the different systems work together to maintain life. I took an anatomy and physiology course in high school as well, and after taking a year of general biology and another anatomy and physiology course in college, I believe I have a very good understanding of how the body works and what to call its various parts. As a premedical nutrition major, I clearly am not done studying the human body, but this past semester, while studying anatomy and physiology, my knowledge of the subject expanded significantly. To date, I have dissected a number of animals and tissues, including a frog, a fetal pig, a cat, a sheep heart, and an adult pig kidney. The experience I have had should be adequate to teach up to an undergraduate level.
biochemistry
This semester I took an autotutorial biochemistry course at Cornell. It covered two semester's worth of biochemistry, and had weekly 40-60 minute quizzes in addition to three exams given throughout the semester. Because of the nature of the course and the deadlines students were given, it was absolutely essential to learn the material well and to keep up with the subject throughout the entire semester. Also, because it was an autotutorial course, I had to be independent in learning the material. Students could always approach the undergraduate teaching assistants for help, but in the end, each person had to take the quizzes and tests individually. The material is still fresh in my memory, and I still have my notes and textbook. I have a very thorough understanding of biochemistry because of this course in particular, which reinforced what I learned in nutritional biochemistry and microbiology at Cornell, which cover many of the same topics.
