After maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school, I entered UC Berkeley at age 16 on an accelerated high school program. There I studied film. I would ultimately relocate to points East a few units shy of my degree. I ended up receiving a Liberal Arts BA from Thomas Edison, and a Master's in Positive Psychology from Atlantic University. Something of a perennial student, I'm currently half-way through an MBA in Project Management.
I write screenplays for a hobby, and read profusely on a wide smattering of subjects to fuel the creative writing. I've always been strong in English, Math, and Science. I also have quite an extensive background in psychology, spirituality, and philosophy.
My Master's in Positive Psychology lends itself particularly well to mentoring most any subject as it helps me to take someone, irregardless of their current performance, to the next level. Folks with this degree often coach rock stars, professional athletes, and anyone who needs to be in "the zone" a high percentage of the time. That is, anyone whose job relies on stellar performance and continuous improvement. Well, back in the day that was mostly performance artists, athletes, and scholars. These days it's most anybody.
My current day-job includes a fair amount of critical thinking that's communicated through technical writing, group presentations, Power Points, and dry-erase boards. So I'm at ease teaching before groups of 15 or more, and also doing one-on-one coaching. Working in Quality Assurance, I essentially coach other coaches. I've frequently gotten the feedback that "I come alive" when teaching. |
