elementary (k-6th) I am a classroom teacher in the Charlotte-Mechlenberg Schools currently teaching second grade. I have six years of classroom teaching experience in elementary grades. My tutoring experience is with all ages, including adults. I especially like to teach remedial reading and have experience working with diverse learning needs. My style is positive, supportive and upbeat and my standards are high. I employ a combination of methodologies and strategies tailored to the needs of the learner. ESL/ESOL I have an International Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I have taught adults at all levels and children in the primary grades. My approach is interactive and engaging, focusing on the needs of the learner. I tailor all lessons with an understanding of the critical language elements needed. grammar Understanding grammar is the foundation of teaching and learning English. My experience and training in TEFL make me uniquely qualified to teach grammar to all levels and for a variety of usages (formal, written, idiomatic, etc.) It doesn't even have to be boring! special needs All learners are unique and some are more unique than others. All children have diverse learning needs and capabilities. I stay current with the research, methodologies and techniques for reaching all learners. I utilize many of them in my classroom. study skills One of the hardest things I've ever done is to learn and to apply basic organizational techniques and study skills. There must be 20 different approaches and programs and I must have tried them all! In the end I successfully blended, modified and tweeked and developed a system that works for me. All learners are unique. Just as there is no one approach to teaching, there is no one approach to mastering the art of studying.
