ESL/ESOL I am certified to tutor ESL through the Laubach method that the Dominican Sisters use in their Detroit Literacy Center. I have volunteered there for about four years until we moved. English is also my second language but I have studied it since I was in the grade schools. When I was deciding for my minor in my teacher preparation study, I picked English because I have a strong background in it. While working as a computer lab facilitator at a high school, I also saw the students' need for proficiency in English before they can be successful in utilizing the advantages of technology. Hence, I wanted to become more proficient with teaching the language especially to foreign born students like myself. general computer I have worked in the computer field as a programmer, project analyst, and auditor of computer systems. My desire to know more about computers, led me to various jobs in the school environment mostly as computer lab facilitator. While earning my certification to teach computer science, I also earned my Microsoft Computer Professional and CISCO network administrator certifications. I enjoy working with people and explaining how the computer works as well as the software in it. I have a lot of experience doing this as a tutor at the college learning support center. grammar I gained proficiency with the English language both written and oral because of the training I received as a Second Language learner. Since English was my medium of instruction, I was drilled in grammar. As a tutor for a literacy center and a college learning support center, I worked with students both native and foreign born, on their grammar. Students always requested me because I relate well to their problems of learning the complexities of the grammar rules. Working one-on-one also enables me to assess the student and to build on his or her own talent. This way the learning process is geared to the individual rather than simply following a routine process. powerpoint Having an extensive background in computers, Powerpoint is one of my favorites to learn on my own and later passed a certification test through Certiport. I taught this even before becoming certified, at the school for special needs students who are being transitioned for independent living. Later, at the college, I tutored students on this as well as used this software for my presentations in various subjects. While student teaching, I taught this as a subject, and also helped both teachers and administrators on their presentations. This is a fun software to learn and use.
