Though I majored in English, I did double minor in theater and education. I took classes in performance, theater history, play analysis, Shakespeare, etc. I have authored several papers and essays on Shakespeare and the craft of acting. I have taught theater on a variety of levels and have worked in schools, community theaters and professional theaters. I currently hold three awards from the Theater Association of New York State (TANYS). Two of the awards are for acting and one for directing. The shows I have directed one a total of seven TANYS awards and I have also had one student win an award as an Outstanding Actress by a high school student. I have directed and performed in over fifty productions, including musicals and non-musicals.
I have directed several all-student and school productions, including Beauty and the Beast, Once Upon a Mattress, Peter Pan, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Arsenic and Old Lace, and The Wizard of Oz. I have directed adult productions such as Oliver, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), The Complete History of America (Abridged), and most recently Anything Goes. Soon, I am working on a production of Seussical: the Musical.
I have acted in a large number of leading roles as well, such as Pseudolous in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Guido Contini in Nine, Billy Crocker in Anything Goes, Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly!, Father in Ragtime, Dr. Parker in Bat Boy: The Musical, Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Mr. Utterson in Jekyll and Hyde, The Warden in Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Agis in Triumph of Love, Pharaoh/Levi in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Lun Tha in The King and I, various roles in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, and various roles in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and The Complete History of America (Abridged). Currently, I am cast as the Baker in Into the Woods.
Professionally, Eric has worked on productions of A Christmas Carol, Mame, Into the Woods, The Fantasticks, Forever Plaid, Phantom, The Red Mill, Anything Goes, as well as several cabarets and evenings of song. Along with this stage work, I have also worked with a local production company, doing on-camera work for some major organizations and state departments.
I serve on the board of directors for a not-for-profit community theater and also serve as their Vice President of Artistic Development. While serving these roles, I have been in charge of show selection, critiquing, and high school musical adjudications. I also teach theater in the classroom as well as doing private lessons with students on technique, methods, and audition prep. I have taught children as well as adults in a variety of conditions (one-on-one, groups, etc.). I have had students audition for local productions as well as national tours and Broadway shows. I have also taught workshops for kids, dealing with topics such as improvisation, performance, design conception, etc. With adults, I have taught these areas, as well as audition prep workshops.
Along with directing and acting, I have also worked on producing, stage managing, playwriting, set design, costumes, sound, props, and lighting.
