About

Hi! My name is Leah; I am a student at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and am majoring in Elementary education with a dual certification in Persons with Exceptionalities or Special Education. I hold a 4.0 and am very involved with my school and the community. I have been tutoring since high school when I helped the middle school students with their work after school. Since then I have fallen in love with teaching and helping others. Last summer I tutored a third grader in math and reading. I have also tutored children though programs at college. In the fall semester I was a learning assistant in the D.A.R.E after school program. I was in charge of about 7 to 10 second graders for two hours after school for the entire semester. I helped them with their homework and any areas that they struggled in. I found this experience taught me many things about children and how they learn. In the spring semester I was a part of a program called Kidsread. I was paired up with a first grader and for two hours a week we would meet in the library to read, write or just talk about different books. Throughout the program I became close with my student and helped her improve her reading skills. I love teaching and using my creativity to make a subject fun for a child. I commit to what I am doing and give 110% each time I tutor because I believe that children are the future and it is our job to teach them. |
