About Heba

Hello :) After my undergraduate studies at George Mason University including the honors program, I completed a Master's Degree in English Literature in May 2009 with a concentration in Literature and Cultural Studies, in which I became immersed in courses covering a wide range of contemporary and classical topics. During my university years, I tutored in various settings and I also taught in the classroom through George Mason's Early Identification Program, which targets talented high school students and gives them an early start to their college careers.

More recently while completing my master's degree, I was recommended to be a lecturer in a business writing course at GMU for the spring of 2009. I gladly accepted this opportunity to teach two sections (60 students) because I knew it would allow me to utilize my strengths in helping business students dramatically improve their communication skills through extensive practice in writing and presenting. I had an exceptional rapport with the students, and a large number of them voluntarily approached me at the end of the course to let me know that they appreciated my teaching style, my willingness to answer their questions, and my overall staunch commitment to helping them learn. It was for these reasons that they told me I stood out among their instructors. At the end of the semester, I also received the written course reviews, which were truly encouraging and inspiring.

Tutoring students from different backgrounds builds upon my strong appreciation for and exposure to a mutli-national/ multi-cultural learning environment. My elementary school was in Bahrain in the Persian Gulf, and was attended by expatriates from all over the world including the Middle East, the Far East, Europe, and the Americas. As such, I know firsthand the challenges of learning a second language. Moreover, I have always appreciated how my teachers at the time knew how to adapt their teaching styles to the various backgrounds of all the students. Years later, I was able to follow their example when teaching the business writing class at GMU where a large percentage of the students were not native English speakers.

In the near future, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Education and teach because I love to see people reach their academic goals and realize their potential! I am pretty flexible with hours but I require tutoring to be at a public location. Please contact me if you are looking for an honest, hardworking, and patient tutor who is excited to see positive results!
